Lisa M. Hackett, a dedicated Chicago educator, loving wife, and proud mother, passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 58. Her loss is deeply felt by her family, friends, and the countless students and colleagues whose lives she touched throughout her decades-long teaching career.
Born on November 28, 1966, Lisa was the daughter of the late Stanley and Margaret Filipczak and spent her life rooted in faith, family, and a genuine passion for education. She shared a strong and loving marriage with her husband, Brian Hackett, and together they raised three children—Katie, Maggie, and Danny—who were the center of her world.
Lisa’s career as an educator spanned more than three decades, beginning at St. Denis Catholic School in 1990 and continuing through her time at Hurley Elementary and Ashburn Community Elementary. She was more than a teacher—she was a guiding light to students, a mentor to peers, and a trusted figure in the school communities she served. Her classroom was a space filled with warmth, encouragement, and respect, where every child felt seen and supported.
Her presence radiated kindness and strength, and her smile left a lasting impression. Lisa’s colleagues admired her not only for her dedication to teaching but for her humility, generosity, and unwavering commitment to doing good in the lives of others.
Deeply spiritual, Lisa was a devout Catholic whose faith shaped her outlook on life and gave her comfort and purpose. She carried that strength into every interaction—at home, in the classroom, and in her broader community. She was also a beloved sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. Those closest to her speak often of her grace, quiet strength, and the love she gave so freely.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Curley Funeral Home in Chicago Ridge. A funeral mass will follow on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel, with burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Rush MD Anderson Cancer Center in honor of Lisa’s brave battle and in support of continued cancer research.
Lisa Hackett will be remembered not only as a teacher, but as a builder of hope, love, and community. Her impact lives on through her children, her students, and the many people lucky enough to have known her. Her memory is a reminder of the power of compassion, the value of service, and the legacy one kind soul can leave behind.
Rest peacefully, Lisa. You are deeply missed and forever loved.
