Franklin, MA — The Franklin community is mourning the untimely passing of Katelyn Mooney, a 27-year-old behavioral therapist, communication professional, and cherished friend to many. Katelyn passed away on April 13, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy that profoundly impacted the lives of those who knew her.
Born and raised in Franklin, Massachusetts, Katelyn exemplified what it meant to be a compassionate and community-driven individual. Her vibrant energy, genuine empathy, and enduring work ethic set her apart both professionally and personally.
Katelyn was most recently employed as a Behavioral Therapist at Cortica in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, a position she took on in October 2024. In this full-time role, she worked closely with children and families, providing personalized therapeutic care for developmental differences. Katelyn approached her work with unmatched dedication, combining her academic background with her intuitive ability to connect with people.
Before entering the behavioral health field, Katelyn built a strong foundation in communication and media studies, earning her Bachelor of Arts from Framingham State University. During her time at FSU, she developed skills in interpersonal communication, digital media, and community outreach—skills she seamlessly applied to both her personal relationships and professional path.
From 2019 to early 2025, Katelyn served as a bartender at Teddy Gallagher’s Irish Pub, where she became a local favorite among patrons. Her sense of humor, welcoming smile, and ability to make anyone feel seen made her an unforgettable presence behind the bar. Her previous roles at the Great British Beer Company and Benchmark Senior Living also reflected her love for helping others, whether through service or support.
At Benchmark, where she worked for over six years, Katelyn served as an Activities Assistant, taking pride in organizing social and recreational events for senior residents and helping newcomers transition into their new homes. Her role was not just a job—it was a calling that showcased her instinct for care and community-building.
Those closest to Katelyn describe her as the “life of the party” with a “sweet and calming presence.” She had a remarkable gift for making others laugh, sharing spontaneous jokes, funny memes, and heartfelt messages. Her close friend Anthony Saster shared an emotional tribute:
“You were always so sweet and thoughtful, Mooney. You stood by me through school and later became close with my family and friends. No one had a brighter spirit or sweeter presence. I’ll miss the random memes, your funny quotes, and just hearing from you out of the blue. Rest easy, queen. Until we meet again.”
Katelyn Mooney will be remembered for the many roles she played: devoted friend, loving daughter, diligent student, skilled therapist, and joyful community member. Her unexpected passing is a significant loss to Franklin and beyond.
Details regarding a public memorial and celebration of Katelyn’s life will be shared by the family in the coming days. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local mental health organizations, a cause Katelyn was deeply passionate about.
As the Franklin community reflects on the light she brought into their lives, one thing remains certain: Katelyn Mooney’s memory will live on through every heart she touched, every smile she sparked, and every act of kindness she inspired.
