Collin Federer Cause of Death, Pickerington, OH – April 18, 2025 – A wave of grief has settled over both Muskingum University and the Pickerington community following the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 20-year-old Collin Federer, a promising student-athlete whose vibrant spirit, dedication, and kindness touched countless lives. Collin tragically passed away on April 17, 2025, leaving behind a void in the hearts of his family, friends, coaches, classmates, and all who knew him.

Collin, a sophomore at Muskingum University, was pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a focused drive to succeed in academics and athletics. As a midfielder for the Muskingum Fighting Muskies men’s soccer team, he was more than just a player—he was a dependable teammate, a motivator, and a respected competitor. His teammates remember his relentless work ethic, quiet confidence, and ability to lift up those around him, both on and off the field.

A 2023 graduate of Pickerington High School Central, Collin stood out not only as an athlete but also as a creative soul. Friends often spoke of his artistic talents, which he explored with passion outside of the classroom and the soccer field. He was also a valued team member at Kingy’s Pizza Pub, where his colleagues admired his reliability, humility, and friendly nature.

What truly made Collin special was the way he lived with sincerity and purpose. He balanced multiple responsibilities as a full-time student, college athlete, artist, and part-time employee—all while remaining grounded in gratitude and compassion. Whether encouraging a teammate through a tough practice or bringing laughter to the dinner table with his family, Collin’s presence was one of warmth and genuine care.

He is survived by his devoted parents, Don and Kerry Shaffer, who remember their son as a source of pride, joy, and inspiration. Collin’s love for sports, his deep respect for family values, and his creative energy were all reflections of the love and guidance he received at home. His passing is a profound loss, not only to them but to the larger network of people whose lives he touched in both Pickerington and the greater Muskingum University community.

In the coming days, Collin’s family will share arrangements for a memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to local youth athletic organizations, a cause close to Collin’s heart. Supporting the next generation of student-athletes ensures that his spirit of teamwork and perseverance will continue to live on.

Muskingum University, in a statement of deep sorrow, extended heartfelt condolences to the Federer-Shaffer family and all those impacted by Collin’s loss. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and the impact he made in just 20 short years will continue to inspire future students and athletes alike.

As friends, classmates, and loved ones grieve, they are united in honoring Collin’s legacy—a young man who gave so much of himself to others and lived each day with heart, passion, and purpose.
